Welcome to Painter Creek Church of Christ
Reaching up,
reaching in,
reaching out.
Painter Creek Church of Christ is part of the Restoration Movement, seeking to restore the Church of the New Testament in principle and practice. We seek unity in all essentials and practice speaking only where the Scriptures speak.

What We Believe
No creed but Christ. No book but the Bible.
The Church of Christ are part of what is known as the Restoration Movement. The goal of this movement is to break away from denominational creeds and traditions and to restore the worship practices, organization, and government of the early church established by Jesus and His Apostles. Therefore, we consider ourselves to be non-denominational and believe this is God's desire for all of Christianity. (John 17:20-21; Ephesians 4:4-6)
We have no creed other than that of Christ (John 6:68) and use no book other than the Bible. We consider all penitent believers who have been baptised — immersed — for the forgiveness of their sins (John 3:5; Acts 2:38; Romans 6:1–4) to be our brethren. (Acts 2:41, 47)
At the Painter Creek Church of Christ, you will learn of God's power, and of your own possibilities. Our congregation is independent and self-governing, and that freedom is vital to the universal nature of the Church. Our congregation is presided over by elders and deacons, elected to serve the Lord and this congregation. These offices were established by the early Church to ensure the vitality of the congregation (Acts 6:1-7; Titus 1:5-9; Timothy 3). The officers are selected from among the members in a democratic manner and thereby called to fulfill the offices outlined in the New Testament. The minister is regarded as a teacher, evangelist, and holds no official authority exceeding other members of the congregation.
Our purpose is to present New Testament truth as clearly as we can perceive and describe it. It is our understanding of Bible truth. Yours may be better. But we cannot disagree with the Scriptures.
May you open yourself with the Painter Creek Church of Christ, to be used by the God with whom NOTHING IS IMPOSSIBLE! (Philippians 4:13)
Scripture alone
No creed, manual, or tradition stands above the Word of God.
Elders and deacons
Local, self‑governing, chosen by the congregation they serve.

Your first Sunday
Here's What to Expect
Here is the entire schedule of a Sunday morning service, in the order it happens, so you can walk in already knowing what to expect.
Singing
We sing with a piano, with everyone participating as we lift our voice to the Lord.
Prayer
Several prayers are offered throughout each service. These may address specific needs of the sick and those in need, or simply request God's blessing. This is commanded of us in 2 Timothy 2:1–2.
Communion
If you visit us on a Sunday morning, you will witness us partaking of The Lord's Supper, which we do every Sunday in accordance with Biblical teaching (Acts 20:7). This memorial meal is for the purpose of remembering Jesus' sacrifice upon the cross. The unleavened bread symbolizes Jesus’ purity and physical suffering. The "fruit of the vine" (grape juice) symbolizes the blood He shed upon the cross.
Offering
You will see us collect a weekly financial offering in accordance with 1 Corinthians 16:1–2. As our guest, you are not expected to make a donation.
Preaching
Each service a sermon is presented by our minister. All sermons are Bible‑centred and designed to reach down to where we live and make practical application of God's Word. Each sermon usually lasts about thirty minutes.
Invitation
At the close of the sermon, the minister invites all those present who desire to commit their lives to Christ to come forward.
How long?
Sunday School runs one hour, and worship services are typically one hour.
What do I wear?
Whatever you own. Some wear a tie, others don't. Nobody is counting.
What about my children?
Bible classes for every age are available at 9:30, and children are welcome to stay with you during worship services.

Our other ministry
Sunday Services are one of the ways we serve. They aren't the only one.
Little Wonders Daycare
Our childcare ministry, on this same campus — a safe, warm place for the youngest children to play, learn and be genuinely known. Open to every family in the Abingdon area, whether or not you worship with us.
Giving
Giving, if you'd like to
Painter Creek Church of Christ is funded entirely by the people who worship here. Offerings keep the lights on, the van running and the daycare staffed.
We collect a weekly offering in keeping with 1 Corinthians 16:1–2, where Paul asks each person to set something aside on the first day of the week, in proportion to how they have prospered. That is the whole instruction: regular, proportionate, and decided in your own heart.
If you are visiting us, please let the plate pass. You are our guest.
Online
Tithe.ly accepts debit, credit and bank transfer. Bank transfer carries the lowest fee, so more of your gift reaches the work. Your card details go to Tithe.ly, never to us.
In the assembly
The offering is collected each Sunday morning. Nobody is watching what anyone puts in.
